Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: May 1, 2026
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) is part of our Terms of Use and applies to everyone who uses Surewyse. The AUP exists for two reasons: (1) to keep our customers’ sender reputation strong, and (2) to protect the operators and users of the mail systems our verifier interacts with.
1. You must have a lawful basis for every address you submit
By submitting an email address to the Service, you represent that you obtained the address lawfully and have a lawful basis under applicable data-protection law (including, where relevant, the GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, CAN-SPAM, CASL, and POPIA) to verify it. Examples of lawful sources include your own customer records, opt-in newsletter signups, account registration forms, and lists you have a legitimate business relationship with.
You must not submit:
- Lists you scraped from the web, harvested from public profiles, or generated programmatically (e.g.
{firstname}.{lastname}@{domain}permutations). - Lists you bought, traded, rented, or otherwise acquired without consent of the underlying data subjects, where consent is required.
- Lists belonging to third parties without their authorization.
- Special-category data under Article 9 GDPR (e.g. health, racial/ethnic origin, sexuality), unless you have explicit consent or another permitted basis.
2. Prohibited use cases
You must not use the Service to support, plan, or carry out:
- Spam, unsolicited bulk or commercial email, “cold blast” outreach to scraped lists, or any messaging that violates anti-spam law in your or the recipient’s jurisdiction.
- Phishing, pretexting, business-email compromise, romance scams, fake-invoice fraud, or any other deceptive activity.
- Harassment, threats, doxxing, stalking, or targeted abuse of any individual.
- Building, enriching, selling, or trading email lists for resale.
- Reconnaissance against an organization’s users without authorization (e.g. mapping employees by guessing addresses).
- Activity that infringes intellectual-property or privacy rights, defames any person, or violates applicable law.
3. Technical abuse
You must not:
- Share a single account across multiple organizations to bypass quota limits, create multiple free accounts to evade billing, or otherwise circumvent metering.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or replicate the Service or its outputs.
- Use the Service to test, train, or build a competing email-verification product.
- Probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service except as expressly authorized in writing or under our security disclosure program.
- Send malware, viruses, or harmful code through, into, or via the Service.
- Impose unreasonable load: respect the API rate limits and the published bulk-verification batch sizes.
4. SMTP probing — how we behave on remote servers
Our verifier opens a single SMTP conversation per address using a neutral mail-from identity, issues EHLO → MAIL FROM → RCPT TO, and disconnects. We never deliver a body, never spoof the customer’s domain in MAIL FROM, and respect grey-listing and rate-limiting signals from the destination server. You must not attempt to repurpose the Service to send unsolicited mail or simulate delivery of one.
5. Reporting abuse
If you believe a Surewyse account is being used in violation of this AUP, or if our verifier has caused operational issues for a mail system you operate, contact abuse@surewyse.com. We investigate every report and act on confirmed abuse, up to and including immediate account termination.
6. Enforcement
We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice where reasonable, suspend or terminate any account, withdraw API keys, delete data uploaded in violation of this AUP, and report suspected illegal activity to law-enforcement authorities. We will not refund fees for periods during which an account was suspended or terminated for AUP breach.
7. Changes
We will update this AUP from time to time and revise the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be announced by email or in-product banner. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
